Lord of the Rings Online

My work

The Lord of the Rings On-line is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) set in Tolkien's Middle-Earth, developed by Turbine, Inc. I worked here for ten years starting in QA to design and eventually became the Lead eCommerce Designer. I worked on countless quests, dungeons, raids, and other experiences during my time here.

Demo Reel

A friend of mine helped me put together this demo reel in 2011.  This showcases some of the dungeons that I designed and scripted.

The Rift

The second raid, I built. This dungeon took six months to build with a huge amount of help from the artists on the team. We designed and concepted the first Balrog fight that was even nominated as a Top 10 MMO Instance of all time by IGN.com:

Even today, few MMORPGs so fully capture the experience of living in a fantasy world quite like The Lord of the Rings Online, but Turbine's sprawling take on Middle-earth rarely pops up in discussions of great raid battles. It wasn't always thus.

Once, players threw themselves against the balrog Thaurlach as he broke from his chains in the Rift of Nûrz Ghâshu. Spewing disease and conjuring swords as long as Hobbiton is wide, he did his best stomp the light from Glathlírel the elf as she attempted to purify the waters nearby, while players pulled levers and smote Thaurlach's ruin upon the cavernside. Even the best prepared groups would end up battling him for the better part of an hour, but it was worth it for the gigantic sword you got to stick on the lawn of your personal home as a trophy.

Lalia’s Market

During my time as the eComm lead, we built an in-game currency called Mithril and we created a cosmetic mall in the game named after one of it's favorite characters, Lalia. People came and shopped and cosmetics sold like never before.
